SDK, previously Smuts & de Kock, one of the oldest architectural groups in the Southern Cape, approached CREATE DESIGN ™ in 2005 and asked us to define their corporate image.

CREATE DESIGN ™ has developed an ongoing relationship with SDK. Firstly we worked with the management team to establish what the company envisaged to be a clear elegant corporate image. Through a process of developing and distilling the essence of the ideas thus generated, the typeface, line and exact proportions of this minimal brand were defined. The brand was used across a full suite of corporate stationery for Smuts & de Kock - business cards, letterheads, email signatures and signage.

In 2007 CREATE DESIGN ™ was asked to work with Smuts & de Kock once again - to work through the process of re-branding the company as SDK. The process required the exploration of new concepts for the company logo while keeping in mind the brand equity established over 20 years.

The new corporate website launches the reconceptualised SDK brand and corporate image. The site has a clean minimal feel as defined within the SDK design theme. The new colour palette is bolder and more modern and adds a touch of colour to bring the site to life. An interesting design concept introduces novel solutions for multi-layered navigation - a new approach which does not employ the conventional and traditional JavaScript menu systems. Subtle use of flash allows for a comprehensive overview of each project without clicking too many buttons.

The decision to develop a new corporate identity for our practice, was a very daunting prospect indeed. Under Colin's expert guidance and with his professional inputs along the way, the process was kept on track and we are very proud and excited about the final product. We enjoyed Create's interactive approach to solving complex design issues and appreciate the opportunities we were afforded to contribute our ideas as the part of the development process.
